Cheryl J. Tubach
Director of Corporate IP Affairs

Cheryl Tubach recently joined the firm of Myers & Kaplan Intellectual Property Law, LLC as Director of Corporate IP Affairs. Her practice includes all aspects of intellectual property law and related transactional matters. Her goal is to provide clients with efficient and cost-effective legal services with an in-house counsel perspective influenced by 15 years of legal experience.

From 2002 to 2007, Cheryl Tubach was patent counsel for The Coca-Cola Company. Her primary responsibilities included managing the utility and design patent filings and negotiating and drafting all agreements for global packaging related innovations and global bottling process and equipment related innovations which involved interaction with suppliers, bottlers and customers throughout the world. She managed a major portion of the patent portfolio and developed an expertise in global design patent rights. From this experience she has extensive knowledge relating to plastics/polymers, metal, glass, closures and secondary packaging. Ms. Tubach also has expertise in negotiating multi-million dollar licensing deals, settling litigation issues, analyzing M&A portfolios and teaching technical and marketing associates around the world about intellectual property.

Prior to The Coca-Cola Company, Ms. Tubach spent 8 years as patent counsel for Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN. She was responsible for handling patent related matters in the Specialty Plastics Business Unit including patent preparation and prosecution, contract drafting and negotiation, and portfolio management. Ms. Tubach also participated in the formation of an out-licensing program negotiating some of the first revenue generating deals for Eastman. Before beginning her corporate career, Ms. Tubach practiced for a couple of years with a small boutique law firm in Atlanta, GA and briefly as Assistant Solicitor for Fulton County, Georgia. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ms. Tubach worked as a technical service engineer and sales engineer for 5 years with Dow Corning Corporation in the electronics, aerospace and high technology industries.

Ms. Tubach has also been active in professional organizations as a past member of the Board of Director of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) and the IPO’s Education Foundation. She also served as Board Liaison to the Industrial Design Committee. Ms. Tubach is a frequent speaker at various professional seminars on the topic of the interplay between design patents and trademarks from a corporate perspective. She is also a founding member of the Georgia State University Intellectual Property Alumni Association.

Ms. Tubach obtained a law degree from Georgia State University and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kentucky.
