Overview:

Mat grew up on a family farm in Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. After undergraduate school Mat worked as a controls engineer for Union Electric in St. Louis for five years before attending law school at Thomas Cooley in Lansing Michigan. Mat is a registered Patent Attorney with experience as in-house counsel for emerging companies.

Mat has ten years of experience specializing in licensing & business transaction and intellectual property. As a patent attorney Mat has prepared and prosecuted patent and trademark applications in fields such as mechanical, electrical, software, business methods, and telecommunications. As a transaction attorney Mat has negotiated and drafted contracts for development, manufacturing, trials, sales & procurement, services, patent & software licenses, research, reseller/distributor, OEM, software escrow agreements, joint development, supply, promotion, and other legal documents. Prior to joining Myers & Kaplan, Mat was VP & Sr. Counsel at Movaz Networks, a start up telecommunications hardware and software that received $150M in funding. Prior to Movaz, Mat was a Sr. Licensing Officer at the University of California where he negotiated and drafted license agreements covering fields such as: software, electronic and mechanical devices, fabrication techniques, MEMS, optics, new materials, telecom, medical devices, lasers, and bioinformatics. As an electrical engineer Mat has experience with controls systems.
